Recycling wood in more ways than one!

Our first post on the Woodhorn Blog!

We recycle green waste and wood waste here at The Woodhorn Group and we also like to take part in our local community where we can.

Art student Katie Martin contacted Audra to ask if she could have some wood for her art sculpture, and just look at the fantastic results:

Katie writes the following to accompany the piece:

'My work is an examination of travel and shelter in one's life. The domestic staircase is used as a symbol of travel whilst also acting as a metaphor for life's journey. Exploring both the small and grand scale of travel associated with the staircase, the sculptural installation pieces look at the repetitive day to day function of the staircase and the wider suggestion of travel from the beginning to the end of life. The presence of the bed is used to symbolise the importance of the home and the desire for shelter and protection in one's life. Whilst addressing the main themes of shelter and journey, memory and voyeurism are also key themes in my work.'

We think the piece looks great and the wood looks lovely in this form!
